| Description: |
I have an academic background, having achieved a First Class BA English and American Literature degree from Keele University. I am currently completing an MA in English and American Studies at the University of Manchester, upon completion of which I plan to undertake a PhD in the same subject area. I also hold a post-A-level qualification in French, for which I achieved first class marks.
I have experience of teaching languages to secondary school age children and have also acted as a tutor for fellow university students. I have experience of leading group discussions in seminars as well as one to one teaching.
I aim to provide a learning environment in which discussion acts as a keystone to study. This method not only encourages pupils to work through aspects of a subject which they may find challenging but also allows for personal support that might not be available in the group situation of a classroom. I address a pupil's personal subject-related issues rather than following a set programme for every pupil and encourage pupils to open up discussions about their individual targets and needs. My academic background means that for students undergoing the transitional stages, from GCSE to A-level or from A-level to university, I can provide a taster of the more advanced tutor-led learning environment that each new stage brings and an introduction to the concept of seminar situations. |
